This song was/still is the center of how this album came to be for me. Writing it with the coolest husband & wife musicians I know (Deanna and Rick), I knew that we had something different than what I typically write right from the beginning. We made a simple work tape with just electric guitar and my vocal in the music room of their house and the energy of creativity in that room (plus the 4 lattes Deanna made me), I was on Cloud Nine. Not only did it sound good, but lyrically, it was a real story of a break up that I was going through that for once, didn't sound sad or negative. It was just...shit, where do I go from here?
I tracked it almost a year later with Moose at his studio outside of Nashville. It was our first day of tracking and I didn't know Moose very well at the time, even though I'd pulled him in to produce this project. The musicians he'd hired to play on this album, I had never met before, so I was extremely nervous our first day of recording. "All This Love" was the very first song we tracked and it was PURE MAGIC on the FIRST TAKE, I actually cried. The only direction I had given these strangers prior to pushing 'record' was, "Make it sound like one of Marvin Gaye's first records" and that was it. It was done. I'll never forget that feeling as long as I live. It made me fall in love with recording all over again.
